About the Author:

Federico Zeri (Rome, 1921-1998) an eminent art historian and critic, was vice-president of the National Council for Cultural and Environmental Treasures from 1993. Member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he was decorated with the Legion of Honor by the French government. He is the author of numerous artistic and literary publications, such as Pittura e Controriforma, Confesso che ho sbgliato, The Catalogue of Italian Painters in the Metropolitan Museum of New York and the Walters Gallery of Baltimore.
