"STARRY NIGHT is dominated by the crescent moon at the top right, the large stars and the turbulent air, while the landscape opens up behind a wing made up of huge cypresses. It is an extremely significant work, both in terms of technique and of the use of colour. The brushstrokes, laid one next to the other like a mosaic, give the whole work a sense of incessant movement. The undulant rhythm that pervades it demonstrates an undeniable link with Art Nouveau.”
